The many forms of collaboration that are available to pianists – vocal accompanying, instrumental accompanying, orchestral playing, opera coaching, dance accompanying, chamber music – are all natural extensions of one another if approached with the belief that listening to and exchanging ideas with fellow artists is how we develop personally and create community with one another. I offer private piano instruction at my home studio in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan toΒ students of all ages, levels, and walks of life. Β My teaching is tweaked for each individual student but is fundamentally built on the values of mindful practice, theoretical understanding, technical prowess, and injury prevention and posture. My primary objective is to teachΒ students how to practice most efficiently, and eventually, to teach themselves. It is through teaching piano that I am able to cultivate not only anΒ appreciation, but moreover, a love for music in my students based in deep understanding and presence.
